Computer engineering admissions

Master of Science admission requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or a graduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related field such as computer engineering, computer systems engineering, electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Minimum of a 3.00 cumulative GPA (scale of 4.00=A) in the last 60 credit hours of the applicant’s first bachelor’s degree program.
  • International applicants with degrees not from ABET-accredited programs must have at least the equivalent of a 3.00 cumulative GPA (scale of 4.00=A) in their last two years of undergraduate coursework.
  • The Graduate Record Examinations, or GRE, is no longer required for master’s degree students as of fall 2023 and doctoral degree students as of fall 2024.
  • Applicants must upload a personal statement in their applications indicating professional goals and reasons for desiring to enroll in the computer engineering program.
  • Three letters of recommendation are optional.

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or a graduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related field such as computer engineering, computer systems engineering, electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Minimum of a 3.00 cumulative GPA (scale of 4.00=A) in the last 60 credit hours of the applicant’s first bachelor’s degree program.
  • International applicants with degrees not from ABET-accredited programs must have at least the equivalent of a 3.00 cumulative GPA (scale of 4.00=A) in their last two years of undergraduate coursework.
  • The Graduate Record Examinations, or GRE, is no longer required for master’s degree students as of fall 2023 and doctoral degree students as of fall 2024. Note that the GRE might still be required for other doctoral programs at ASU if you are applying to multiple programs.
  • Applicants must upload a personal statement including these four items:
    • Explain professional goals and reasons for desiring to enroll in the PhD program.
    • Describe any research experience.
    • Indicate personal research areas of interest.
    • Identify two or three Arizona State University computer engineering program faculty with matching research interests.
  • Three letters of recommendation are required, at least one of which must be from a former faculty member an applicant studied under.
